Hawaii Curriculum

Our curriculum is closely aligned with the Hawaiian Standards System as well as the National Reading Panel and the National Council of Teachers of Math. One group identifies the standards as laid down in the Hawaii Content & Performance Standards III (HCPS III) and another group of professionals outlines the same skills in our teaching materials. This process is developed grade level by grade level until all levels are covered in grade three through grade twelve. The findings of the group sessions are passed on to the tutors at the training seminar to ensure complete understanding of the Hawaiian Standards System. Our content set reasonable targets and expectations for what tutors need to teach and students need to learn. Tutors are encouraged to go beyond the standards and select instructional strategies and assessment methods appropriate for their students.

Our math content has been designed to support the five strands as laid down in Hawaii Content & Performance Standards III (HCPS III):

• Number Sense and Operations
• Patterns, Relations, and Algebra
• Geometry
• Measurement
• Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability

Moreover, for higher grades we cover the following courses in detail:

• Pre-Algebra
• Algebra
• Algebra II
• Geometry
• Trigonometry
• Analytical Geometry
• Probability
• Statistics
• Calculus

We have incorporated the guiding philosophy of the HCPS III and ensure that all our instructions are designed to help the students in becoming mathematical problem solvers, communicate mathematically, reason mathematically, make mathematical connections, and use mathematical representations to model and interpret practical situations.

Our tutoring program has been designed to ensure that students must gain an understanding of fundamental ideas in arithmetic, measurement, geometry, probability, data analysis and statistics, and algebra and functions, and develop proficiency in mathematical skills. The students learn to use a variety of methods and tools to compute, including paper and pencil, mental arithmetic, estimation, and calculators. We ensure that the use of technology like Graphing utilities, spreadsheets, calculators, computers, and other forms of electronic information technology is an integral part of teaching and learning.
